UK’s Debt Management Office says it found no evidence that a 1917 Indian War Loan, in which a Bhopal merchant invested Rs 35,000, was ever a British government obligation. A Sehore family holding the century-old certificate seeks an account of repayment, estimating its value at several crores today. The DMO didn’t say whether it was repaid.
