Die Welt ist laut dem jüngsten Bericht des UNO-Umweltprogramms (UNEP) „gefährlich weit“ vom Erreichen der festgelegten Klimaziele entfernt. Mit der aktuellen weltweiten Klimapolitik steuere die Erde bis zum Ende des Jahrhunderts auf 2,8 Grad Erwärmung gegenüber der vorindustriellen Zeit zu, hieß es am Mittwoch. Damit erhöhe sich das Risiko für tödliche Fluten, Hitzewellen und Waldbrände.
