Im Zuge des Anwerbeabkommens kamen in den 60er Jahren fast 900.000 Arbeitskräfte aus der Türkei nach Deutschland – viele blieben. Die Migration habe Deutschland „kulturell, wirtschaftlich, wissenschaftlich und kulinarisch“ bereichert, sagte Merz.
