Gabriel Rufián s'ha passat els últims mesos reclamant un front d'esquerres per a les pròximes eleccions generals , però l'única aliança que el dirigent republicà ha acabat firmant – sense acord amb el Front Ampli d'Ada Colau – ha sigut amb Irene Montero, la candidata de Podem. Tots dos, de fet, ja van protagonitzar un acte plegats el 9 d'abril a Barcelona i, en els últims mesos, han anat estrenyent llaços, tot i que la seva afinitat política no és nova. Rufián havia sortit en defensa de Montero diverses vegades davant de l'ofensiva de la dreta quan encapçalava el ministeri d'Igualtat. Ara bé,
